Thanks to all for the insights. Seems like about a 50-50 split between Sure
you can do it" and "Are you nuts?"
We removed the mast base and the front flooring to get access to all eight keel bolts and decided to go through with the project. There was no indication of damage to the glass from the inside (nor had I ever seen any cracking from the outside). The bolts seem to be in prime condition. Stainless steel thank goodness. We have 1 to 1.5 inches of bolt showing above the nuts, so we should be able to raise the hull by that height without risking the keel coming loose from the hull. Just need to find a 1-1/8 inch deepset socket.
I'll report back on the outcome of the job. Current intentions are to do it the weekend after this - Wisconsin weather permitting.
On another subject, does anyone have a source for a replacement mast boot? or is there something better to replace it with. Mine cracked significantly last season and needs to be replaced.
