I spoke to Carl Schumacher several months before he passed away (he was a super nice guy) and he said the following. The cabin top check stays were placed there because MORC rules allowed checks within roughly a meter of the mast, without incurring a penalty. He recommended placing the checks aft for better control of the mast. My dilemma is where to place them and how to control them. Thanks to everyone for their input, good sailing.
