Yes it is true that we have some larger crew members. I'm 230, my main
trimmer is 200+, my genoa/spinnaker trimmer is 200+, my tailer is 200+, my
bow man is around 170, my pit man is around 190+/-, and I don't know what
the other guys weigh. We are on the BIG side. Also who knows about the
calibration on my Nexus wind speed indicator. It is all relative for us and
an indicator for sail selection. I am also a "pincher" normally, especially
in a breeze. Our #2 was built a while ago by Sobstad and is full enough to
be able to reach. Our week night courses sometimes have reaching legs that
are not spinnaker carries. We have no reef points in our main so we also
shift gears by changing headsails. I have found that if it drops below 14
kts. true the old blade tends to slow us down while the #2 can handle it
better. We tend to have flatter water with some chop here in Narragansett
Bay. We are not usually in large seas ever, unless we race off-shore, which
is seldom.
