Hi,
I talked with my sailmaker who was away last week doing the Mumm 30 Worlds. There are many variables to the sails that could cause difficulty. In other words they probably couldn't do a "cookie cutter" main for instance because someone may not have check stays like mine or at all and use more or less prebend in the setup of the mast. The checks effect the luff curve specified. My mast is fairly straight with the checks on so I have maybe 1 1/2" of bend. The film issue also is a variable. Also there maybe some difference between the Pacific Boats and the Ericson models. I'm not sure that the mast is as bendy or not on the Ericson models.
The local lofts do the final work of reefs, leech lines, draft stripes, etc. on the 3DL products. They build the entire sail if it is panel.
That being said, Bill Fortenberry of North R.I. (401) 683-7997 told me to contact everyone interested and ask for a name, address, phone number, list of sails you are interested in, and who if anyone is your local contact at North. He would then consult with them to see if we are talking apples for apples.
