Elliot, have you been lubricating the cable? If you store the boat over
winter, perhaps you should consider taking it off.
I had the same problem and replaced my cable this year but imagine what happens is that the plastic casing becomes hardened through expansion and contractio and is probably a poor quality casing. If stored in cold, perhaps it would help to remove the cable to avoid the contraction part of the formula.
On a totally separate and out of ordinary note, over a few (or so) beers last night and in light of the fact that we will be putting up for storage over the next couple of weeks, the topic came up of creating a new billards game that embodies the same principles of sail boat racing. This may have been explored long ago, and if so, please share. What we came up with was the start of a new game called Windward - Leward. We are very much in the R&D phase of this project however substantial breakthroughs (and headaches) occurred. If interested please reply and I'd be happy to expand upon further, explore and develop for those with looking to tend to the off season blues. There is probably a whole new takeoffs on this old game that could provide laughs and lots of challenge.
