I'm also surprised to hear that the tank holds 13 gals. I had assumed (and
my untrustworthy gauge assumed) that the tank was virtually empty when I
could add 8 gals of fuel. I even ran out of fuel (or so it appeared at the
time) once while cruising and only was able to add 8 gallons. Thinking back,
I wonder if I was actually dealing with fuel line blockage rather than an
empty tank, as I wasn't compelled to bleed the system. I simply dropped the
bowl on the filter, primed the line and things started right up. Hmmm.....

Steve,
Fuel gauges ar tricky things, because of the irregular shape of fuel tanks. Our tank (which I'm pretty sure would be like yours) is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom to accommodate the slope of the hull.
A float sitting half-way down my tank would read "1/2 full", but I'd be far less than half full (maybe 1/3?) because most of the volume of the tank is in the top "half", not the bottom "half".

Klaus,
I really only thought we had 8 us gallons. Although I'm not positive I have filled from empty to 3/4 tank several times with 6 gallons.
I usually don't fill all the way due to fact that we don't really cruise but just deliver back to and back from races.
Food for thought.
