While I haven't damaged any stanchions since owning the boat, I did find that the bedding situation was about typical of production boats (read not very good), which was disappointing considering that both the Olson 25 and Olson 30 had the benefit of an improved socket system, which I preferred.

During my re-commissioning of the boat, I removed core material at the stanchion locations and filled with epoxy, used a dense epoxy to create flat bedding surfaces under the deck and added substantial backing plates of aluminum. This made a world of difference and the stanchions are now incredibly stiff. Of course this won't help avoid trashing the stanchions if you're competition is playing bumper cars on the race course (might even make it much worse!) but I thought I'd pass it on.

I have been getting someone to re-weld my stanchions as they break. It requires someone with stainless welding experience.
