Core material for the hulls of the Pacific boats, at least above the waterline, is foam. I have Hull No.17 and had mine repaired after an altercation with a bigger and heavier boat at a mark rounding two years ago. What's more, if constant pressure is applied to the freeboard of the hull, such as a fender pressing against it, it will permanently deform.
