Received numerous responses on my question on a good replacement for our
aging spin lock clutches, with cracked side cases. Thank you for each one.
Chris Rousseau suggested:
"Not sure if this is already been done in your 'nursing' but...have you
considered replacing the case. You can buy the parts and swap out the guts
for about .5 the price of a new clutch. The 'new' sides are beefed up
around the main pin.
When I did this to one of mine, I took the opportunity to sharpen up the teeth on the cam while I was in there."
Decided to take Chris' suggestion and buy new cases for our old XA clutches from Layline at $20.48 per clutch. Hopefully for $40 we'll have clutches that will last another ten years. Reasons for not purchasing new/different clutches were cost and having to do all the hole repair. And out crew is familiar with theseold ones, and they work for us. Any changes we make, seem to take forever to get used to. Also, we've got enough deck holes to fill this winter. I'll let you know later this month how this works out.
