That should read
"Just a short report on a great regatta missed by all but one OTHER Olson

Carrera also had a crew of 3, and almost blew out the .5 ounce racing back to Shilshole Sunday. Though we didnt place well, I feel like the fact that we kept our largest spinnaker up in high winds with a skeleton crew gave us the needed edge over the many other boats that (perhaps more sanely) took them down after Point No Point. Wild ride indeed!

Just a short report on a great regatta missed by all but one Olson 30:
Seattle Yacht Club hosted the first ever Port Ludlow Overnight regatta. A 18 KM race each direction with a huge banquet/party upon arrival with all the food and drink you could consume. Saturday was a light air downwind southerly with sunshine, perfect for Splash Tango 2's 3 person crew (the bulk of our crew was racing Etchell 22's in the regional championships). We corrected to 2nd overall behind the well sailed ROSS 40 Paddy Wagon owned by Quantum Sails Brian Huse. Now comes the fun part.
Sunday as we awoke thinking the three of us would have to beat back south, 800 lbs light, low and behold we were seeing sustained 22 knots out of the north with gusts to 28 kts! It didn't take long to figure out to the inch how much foreguy to let out during a jibe as Kathy Watts our bow Amazon jibed the pole, worked foreguy and flew back to trim the guy. Randy, Kathy's boy friend drove the start of the race and did a great job cowboying the guy & trimming the spin sheet (by the way we did 11 jibes!). It felt like San Francisco Bay as we were working against a large ebb tide with the wind against it. As we watched our bow dive into the wave in front, I called for weight back! Well being as none of us could move from our positions we would scooch our butts back as far as we could just as a mental thing.
As we all know, sailing a Olson 30 in breeze is a blast, with only 3 crew it's well...
We ended up finishing boat for boat in front of a J-120 and a Santa Cruz 50, were 2nd to cross the finish line behind Brian & Tish's ROSS 40 and corrected to first overall! We hope to see more Olson's out next year for the Northwest's only destination regatta.
All the best,
Stacey Wilson
