Fellow sailors
Roger Anderson tonite raised a timely issue regarding a 'regular' Olson 30 Class newsletter. So...here we go...
First of all,
1) We want to put out a fall 99 nationwide fleet report that we all are
interested in.
2)a request: those of you with idea or writing, or reporting talent, please
jot down
what your fleet has done this year (the year in review). This can be season
standings, placing in important regatttas, black mail reports on wild
parties (no, that was not me who was thrown in the pool at Long Beach Race
week, but I think I know who pushed me!), changes in ownership, new member
intros. We need info from all fleets!
The fleets that we are aware of are (in no order!), Seattle, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz, SoCal, Atlanta-Lake Lanier, Lake Erie(?), um, Texas, Chesapeake(?), some boats in New Jersey, (who was left out--FL?). We want to know what you did this year. It would appear to me that the most organized groups are Seattle and SF, but there are stories of wild rides, rivalries, and ..... all across the nation.
3) Please offer ideas/themes for at least three newsletters for next year. The first one could be the schedule for all the fleets for 2000, coming out in say, Feb, or March. Maybe another with nationals preview information, etc. Please share your ideas. We are seeing enough interest in boats traveling, that an early calendar would be helpful outside of your own fleet.
We know that San Francisco has had a great newsletter, Seattle has an on-going one, complete with shared national rosters. And in SoCal we have an intermittent one, and the Great Lakes fleet has posted theirs occasionally. It will be fun to share the best of each of these for a national issue. I think a lot of us know enough folks in other fleets now, that we are interested in the shared experiences and reporting on friends.
Fleet members who live outside fleet areas have the newsletter as their only pay back for their um, $35(?) annual fee. They like to see these. Reading Jack Easterday's early newsletters is what I blame for having spent thousands of dollars!
4) And anyone who has editorial/layout talent, or printing resources (location does not matter) please offer to help out. I'm a scissors and tape type of editor, myself. Also, we will need mailing labels, Paul can you supply those?
5) if you have any suggestions of any type, please post them on email, or send them along....I'm pretty good at disguising and presenting potentially 'hairbrain' ideas and requests for information as my own ideas (never know do you!), so feel free to email!
BTW, I've set up a 2000 Nationals/Olson 30 answering maching/ line at my home.......805-489-4410. Feel free to leave requests etc there. There is no caller ID, so please leave your name!
And thanks, Roger, for raising the question!
