Stanchion height

I'm replacing Neuromancer's remaining aluminum stanchions with stainless ones after one aluminum one broke on the double handed Faralones. I'm considering having Ballenger chop a couple inches off the front two to make tacking a little easier. Any recommendations? Do the class rules say anything about stanchion heights? This seems to be the practice on at least some of the boats in the yard.
