Thanks to everyone who replied with tips on how to remove the conduit from my mast. The conduit in my mast was held in place with six injection molded 'slides' running in the relief groove for the mainsail track. The conduit was busted up in a couple pieces and I could only reach the first section of PVC. I ended up using Buzz Ballenger's suggestion and snaked an electrician's fish up the mast to hook the top end of the conduit to pull out all the loose PVC sections.

Also thanks to everyone for helping locate an original rudder for my boat. I've obtained an original rudder from Eric Jungemann (Big Mon), thanks again Eric. For those interested, I received three offers of available original rudders (all Bay area) and three offers to purchase my elliptical rudder (also Bay area). I plan to keep the elliptical rudder for awhile, at least until I have the original fitted and stuffed into my boat... ;-)

One more question, I'm going to convert to the 'high-tech' rope halyards. My current thinking is leaning toward 8mm Tech-12, any comments? Figuring out how long to make the sail shackle to splice section of line (internal to the mast) is fairly simple (I think), but how long are the tails? I want to purchase different color tails for each halyard. I'll do the splicing myself, but I'd like to know a 'ball park' length before I go off on a shopping spree (at least for the first halyard). Any suggestions or halyard 'formulas' will be greatly appreciated.
