Another Year, another Night of too much fun. My head still hurts.

Thanks to all that attended, and thanks to Mike for a year of service and fine job at that.

The awards were great and the raffle was fun and exciting.

Delete the previous email, did not have all skippers on the list. This one is the OFFICIAL recap.

In attendance:

Chris Herriges, Bill Wildner, Bill Jenkins, Bill Vogan, Denny Meagher, Ken Quincy, Ed Bayer, and new co-owner of Falcon - Jim, and

me.

There was discussion on LHOOD, it will be kept on as a counting regatta. There is enough interest in the race to do it, period. The race committee has been doing a good job the last 2 years, and it is a nice gesture to our fellow Port Huron racers in hopes of furthering class participation.

The NSSC was considered as a counting regatta, but not voted in.

Ed Bayer is the new class president - congratulations Ed!

Now.............. IRC. Since the endorsed certificate is going to be mandatory next year, the plan is to ask all those doing the race if they would be willing to get the endorsed certificate now.

Many of you, Chris Herriges (Train), Mike Elliot(Bernoulli), Dick Scott(Cross Check), Richard Huneke(Griffin), Bill Vogan(Major Detail), Robert Gordenker (Time Machine), said you would prefer not to do it, but would for the good of the class. Denny Meagher has Snipe in the shop and is unsure. Greg Whipple (Whiplash) is yes. Bill White (Steelin' Gold) is "skip if possible". Ken Quincy (PDQ Express) is no. Mimi Carter (Special K) is out of town, no response. Val Saph (Rowdy), no response. Teacher's Pet was not asked (yet). Wild Ride, Scandal, Falcon are endorsed. Cracker Jack is gone, Bretwalda likely to follow. That's 3 in, 1 yes, 6 to follow, 5 no or no response(so far), 2 gone for a total of 17 which was 1 more than last years # of participants.

We need 10 for our own class. We have 10. We want to race with as many in the class as possible, since it will be mandatory next year, it would be nice to have all IRC.

Bill White, Ken, Mimi, Val, would you be willing to get your endorsed certificate this year?

It would be best done, and probably cheaper to have it measured before it goes in the water. Luiz, Lance, anybody, can you email a list of measurers with contact info, please?

It was unanimous - everyone wants shirts and hats. We will come up with a design and ask for indications of interest from you, your crew, family, friends.

Bill Jenkins and Denny Meigher were added to the technical committee replacing Dale Peppel (his request) and myself (my request). New language on 2 sail limit rule and boat substitution to be made official soon.

The party was fun, food was tasty, awards were tasteful and unique, the "everyone wins" raffle raised $260. Thank you, Bill, Colleen, and Wild Riders.

Just to be clear....

Remember that there are TWO different types of IRC Certificate... ENDORSED and UNENDORSED. Please be very clear about what is required. It is not sufficient to just say "IRC Certificate is required"!!!

And one other question to add to that.

In order to get in the IRC overall is the rule all boats MUST have Endorsed IRC rating?

I would only add, that we would expect some form of written consent

from each competitor that they agreed to race and be scored with the

fastest rating rather than their own.

(Don't know why you would do that, but the 120'2 certainly plan to!

Bill,

In order for a Level class to petition for a "Level Class IRC Rating"

and be scored in IRC using the fastest IRC rating, all boats in the

class are required to have a valid IRC certificate. The Organizing

Authority (Bayview Yacht Club) does not have the authority to assign an

IRC rating to any yacht, so a yacht must have a valid certificate and

without every boat's valid TCC in that class, a "Level" TCC cannot be

fairly defined.

We have consulted extensively with the USSailing, US-IRC and RORC

offices regarding the Level classes and here's what we have received

from Dan Nowlan

(USSA) and Mike Irwin (RORC) as it relates to what we (BYC as the OA)

can do:

Assuming your class wants compete on a level basis.

  1. All of the boats in your class hold a valid IRC certificate.
  2. You meet the event's requirements for a one design fleet - usually a

minimum number of entrees

3. The race organizer agrees that even though there is a variation in

the ratings, they will score all boats in your fleet with the same TCC.

4. That TCC will be the value of the fastest boat in your class (this

protects the rest of the fleet).

Once a class has been assigned a "Level TCC" number (TCC = Time

Correction Coefficient = your IRC rating number) that same TCC number

will also be used to score the boats in that class for Overall.

I hope this clears this issue for you guys and hope I didn't overstep on

Lance's authority as the Race Chairman in answering your questions.

Past Chairman. :-)

Bill & All:

My understanding, per Lance, per Phil Lyon ('07 Mac chair) is that next

year's

Mac will require endorsed IRC for ALL boats. No IRC - no Mac. This

year is the

compromise - allow level, overall scoring only for boats in 100 %

endorsed IRC

classes.

Those who want to do Mac will need IRC in 2007. Since this is going to

be

mandatory, it leaves 2 questions: do you want to race Mackinac if it

requires

IRC?, if yes, how soon would you be willing to get your IRC cert?

Do you guys know if the following is true?

The class can elect the following regarding IRC ratings and the Mac

Race?

In our class we can race and be scored Level.

The class can also be scored against the fleet using the fastest IRC

rating.

If this option does not require all boats to have endorsed IRC I believe

this to

be what is most likely our best option as I don't see the rest of the

owners

going for the Endorsed IRC certificate.

Chuck, will you or Karl be at the meeting tomorrow?

class

FYI to ponder, of 9 boats voting (Falcon, Wild Ride, Scandal,

Doubleshot,

Bernoulli, PDQ, Mambo, Time Machine, Steelin' Gold. Waiting on Train,

Griffin,

Detail,Jaeger,Special K, Rowdy, Snipe (I just realized I don't have

their email.

Bill do you have it, or phone. Same for Whiplash?)), 3 are for IRC

(Falcon,

Wild Ride and Scandal).

"2a" (IRC in level, score to overall, 1st to finish wins) appears to be

academic unless we convince these guys to get measured.

I will not be at the meeting tonight.

Lance, Luiz, what are the benefits of a level class paying up

(perpetually) for

IRC?.....other than the Mackinac mandate. What's being done about the

rating

disparities? Seems to be big variances among like boats.
