Plywood Berths

I am replacing the plywood of the berths in the main cabin of my J/35 but am unable to remove the 4" strip that extends under and behind the seat backrest. In order to access the 1" x 1" wood strip that is screwed into the 4" plywood strip and the tab on the hull I have tried to remove the seatback. I have taken out all the visible screws in the seat back, but it appears to be "held" in place by vertical white plastic "filler" strips on each end.

Any suggestions on how to remove the seat back without destroying it? The top edge of the seat back appears to fit into / behind the fiddle of the shelf. To remove that piece would require taking the galley cabinetry apart.  There has to be an easier way.

Thanks,
